Mezek TombIt was uncovered in the Maltepe Mound in 1931, 1 km southeast of the village of Mezek, about 10 km southwest of Svilengrad. It dates back to 4th century B.C. The magnificent Thracian necropolis had been assigned for a local Thracian ruler. It is built out of cut stone and consists of a covered corridor (20.65 m long), two rectangular premises, different in size, and a round burial chamber with a bee-hive-like dome, starting from its foundation. There is a stone bed in the bottom of the burial chamber; its entrance was closed by a two-wing bronze door, decorated with lion heads. The gold, silver and bronze objects, found in the tomb, have high artistic and historical value.
