Silistra TombBecause of its exceptional mural paintings, the Silistra tomb is judged to be one of the most significant monuments of painting from the late Antiquity in the Bulgarian lands dating back to 4th century B.C. It consists of a rectangular chamber. The walls and the vault are densely covered by paintings. A married couple is depicted on the western wall, just against the entry to the tomb chamber, while servants with grave goods in their hands feature on the lateral fields. The vault over the vertical walls is decorated with birds, animals, plants, and hunting scenes. The decorative elements are characteristic of Late Antiquity art from the late 4th century. The tomb is one of the material evidences that have survived from the time of the Roman Durostorum (present-day Silistra).
