Aleko Konstantinov House MuseumThe house where the prominent Bulgarian writer was born was built in 1861 by his father Ivanitsa H. Konstantinov who traded in grain crops and building materials. The house has the architecture that was typical for Venice at that time and since 15th May 1926 it began to function as a museum. The house has kept the rich and beautiful atmosphere in which Aleko’s wealthy family lived – spacious rooms, furniture from Venice, one of the first pianos in Bulgaria which Ivanitsa H. Konstantinov once bought for his four children. The exhibited photographs, books and personal items reveal much about the writer’s life and work. The Russian Emperor Alexander II visited the magnificent house in 1877, a year of special importance for all Bulgarians. The museum now exhibits a glass vessel with Aleko’s heart, the clothes he was wearing when he was killed, and one of the rifles his murders used, as if to remind us of the treacherous act committed against a noble and grand person admired by all Bulgarians.
