TsarevoThe town of Tsarevo is situated on two scenic peninsulas at the Black Sea coast. It is at a distance of 70 km from Bourgas and is the biggest port south of it. The town is the successor of an ancient settlement that had existed close to what is now the village of Lozenets. As a result of attacks of Turkish brigands during the Turkish rule, those living in the town migrated and settled here, in what is today the old part of Tsarevo. It had been known under the name of Vasilico. In 1882 it was destroyed by a big fire, and was rebuilt on its present-day site. Up to 1934 the settlement was called Vasilico, and up to 1950 – Tsarevo, then up to 1991 – Michurin, and now Tsarevo again. At present Tsarevo is among the most frequented Bulgarian southern Black Sea towns. The resort offers hospitality, good servicing, entertainment and a rich market of locally grown fresh vegetables. It is particularly pleasant at night by the port: a walk along the key over the breakwater, in the town’s coastal park or to the peninsula, where high above the sea rises the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin (1825), restored and acting since 1999. The church of St Tsar Boris” (1839) and the chapel of St George can be visited in the town. The surroundings of Tsarevo are rife with coastal nooks overgrown with vegetation, having preserved their original natural beauty.
