Imagine a quiet piece of paradise far away from the modern world with its busy living and stressful atmosphere. Imagine unusual and incredible experiences that will inspire you to see our world in a new light. Let us escape together to a world of majestic mountains covered with deep, green forests and crystal blue lakes – a world of heart-touching connections with local people, which will give your life a new meaning. This is a journey to Pirin and Rodopi mountains where you will meet a genuine countryside with friendly people whose ancestors have lived here for hundreds of years. They will cook for you ingredients they have harvested and grown themselves – red tomatoes and juicy vegetables from the garden, delicious cheese from their cows and sheep, red wine from the vineyard. You will see them cook and sing for you, they will welcome you to their homes and help you to understand the Bulgarian soul.

Itinerary:

Day 1. Sofia - Razlog
Transfer from Sofia to the small town of Razlog. Check in at a local bio hotel. Indulging on a homemade dinner.

Day 2. Razlog – Dobarsko
After a delicious homemade breakfast we start our tour to the village of Dobarsko. The village of Dobarsko is nestled in the south foot of the holy Rila Mountains at the altitude of 1070 meters and overlooks the endless horizons of the pearl of Bulgarian mountains Pirin and wide Rodopi Mountains. Here we get acquainted with numerous Bulgarian traditions, which are jealously preserved in Dobarsko. We study and sing local folklore songs together with the famous “Grannies of Dobarsko” who welcome us with fresh baked bread. Further on we will visit the old church Theodor Stratilat where we can see the amazing fresco of Jesus who steps off a vehicle, which resembles a space rocket!
Back to the farm and time to get acquainted with the whole process of preparing bio products. You will have the chance to milk cows, gather vegetables from the garden, pick up fruits, feed the animals, prepare Bulgarian yoghurt and butter by doing it old style. There are options to go for horse-riding or shooting.
In the evening we enjoy homemade dinner in Bansko style. Overnight stay at our bio hotel in Razlog.

Day 3. Razlog – Kovatchevitsa – Leshten – Gaitaninovo
Today we head South to the area where Pirin mountain meets Rodopi mountain. Outstanding views and special landscapes are waiting for us. We visit a pretty, picture-postcard village with old time Rodopi stone houses leaning over narrow cobbled alleys. We go for a walk and enjoy the dramatic mountain panorama. Free time for souvenirs or a cup of coffee at the old time café in the middle of the village. The tour continues to another exciting architectural and historic reserve – the village of Leshten. The village of Leshten is one of the most attractive and authentic rural resorts in Bulgaria. It is situated on the south slope of Rodopi mountain, with an amazing view to Pirin mountain. Here we have a look at the famous mud house and the other rural and eco houses. We travel further to our next stop – a unique bio complex with houses made of mud, tree and stones. We have a sightseeing tour of the area which combines traditional techniques with a modern environmental philosophy. Overnight stay in Leshten.

Day 4. Leshten – Dospat – Trigrad – Gorna Arda
Another exciting day with unforgettable experiences is waiting for us. We leave Pirin mountain area and drive East. We pass by the gorgeous Dospat Dam. Our scenic drive goes further to Trigrad gorge – the lovely gorge of Trigrad river cut up to 350 meters into the marble is a nature landmark and probably the most impressive gorge in Bulgaria. Our journey continues through a number of picturesque small villages – one of them is the village of Shiroka Laka – famous for its patriarchal traditions and customs. Here we have a stop and take a look at the astonishing combination of the impressive Rodopi landscape with authentic architecture. We have a lunch at a typical restaurant mehana and enjoy the music of Bulgarian bagpipe. From Shiroka Laka we drive to the town of Smolyan and the small village of Gorna Arda. On the way we have a stop and taste Bulgarian yoghurt. Our hosts meet us in Gorna Arda and we stay at their houses. Dinner in a folklore complex, where our hosts prepare delicious Rodopi mountain food.

Day 5. Gorna Arda – Mogilitsa – Wonderful Bridges – Kosovo
Homemade breakfast and start of the day with some exciting visits. We visit an old house from the Revival period – Madzharova house and "Uhlovitsa" cave. It is one of the oldest caves in the region and it has very beautiful "dendrite" formations, which look like sea corals. There are coralities and helictites, formed by the centuries. Visitors can also see 7 incredible lakes at the end of the cave. Our journey continues further through Rodopi mountains to another picturesque village – the village of Kosovo. On the way we visit the Wonderful Bridges nature formation. The Wonderful Bridges are a magnificent site and are actually marble arcs connecting the shores of a river. We have a look at this natural phenomenon and then travel to our next stop – the village of Kosovo.

Day 6. Kosovo
Kosovo village has conserved its traditional spirit. It is a typical example of the Rodopean Renaissance architecture, organically linked to nature. Our hosts have tried to restore some of the centuries-old houses in the village, using traditional construction techniques and natural building materials. The houses where we stay combine authentic architecture with modern comfort. Here we experience unforgettable moments and the Rodopi mountains nature, customs and history. You will taste the best of the traditional Rodopean cuisine. Today, we prepare together a typical Rodopi meal – “patatnik” and have a walk in the forest. We also visit a typical Rodopi mountain shepherd’s house. Overnight stay in Kosovo.

Day 7. Kosovo – Plovdiv – Sofia
Time to say good bye to Rodopi mountains. We leave the mountain and on the way we have a stop at Bachkovo monastery. Short tour of the monastery and free time for shopping. In the area outside the monastery you can buy homemade honey with nuts, herbs, tea and also a number of souvenirs. Our tour continues to the town of Plovdiv. Back to civilization! Here we visit the Old town. The Old town embodies Plovdiv`s long and varied history - Thracian fortifications utilized by Macedonian masons, overlaid with Byzantine walls, and by great timber-framed mansions erected during the Bulgarian renaissance, looking down on the Ottoman mosques and artisans` dwellings of the lower town.
