Dobrudja is a kingdom into itself within Romania and Bulgaria. The Danube River Delta, the Black Sea coast with stunning rock cliffs, the open fields with shiny sunflowers and nature reserves will amaze you with their colours changing from golden to green. This is a tour of Romanian and Bulgarian Dobrudja which will reveal for you beauties of landscapes, delicious Bulgarian and Romanian cuisine, nature reserves and the two beautiful cities – pearls of the Black Sea coast – Constanta in Romania and Varna in Bulgaria.

Highlights on this tour:

Danube Delta – know the sound of thousands of pelicans and birds in the canals and lakes of the Danube Delta; sail on a boat from lake to lake

Balchik – one of the most scenic Bulgarian towns with houses looking like white birds on the cliffs

The Summer residence of Queen Maria – the palace of Romanian Queen Maria is with no doubt the greatest landmark of Balchik; the Palace is a beautiful creation of nature and architecture

Varna – the third biggest Bulgarian city, amphitheatrically situated around the big Varna bay with wide streets, green parks, big Cathedral and open squares

Constanta – the third biggest Romanian city and the gateway to the Romanian seaside

Kaliakra Cape – the dramatic Cape of Kaliakrag – a majestic 60 m high cape protruding for 2 km into the sea with breathtaking views

 

1. Arrival – Batova village

Arrival to Varna or Bourgas airport and transfer to the small village of Batova, near city of Varna. We stay at a local rural complex of Chiflika, surrounded by deep forest and green hills. In the evening – dinner at the traditional restaurant of the complex with typical food and delicious wine.

 

2. Batova village – Balchik Summer Palace – Kavarna

We leave for our first day of sightseeings. We start with a short stop at the ruined Dervish monastery Ak Yazula Baba Tekke with its seven-sided tomb. Here we will hear the legend about the prophet who is buried in the tomb. Our next stop is the Summer Palace of Balchik and the Botanical garden. Here we spend hours and enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Palace with its romantic villas, amazing gardens, the beautiful waterfall, the stone throne of the Queen facing the sea and thousands of flowers and trees gathered in the Botanical garden around the Sumer residence. Here we will hear the legends about Queen Maria of Romania. Wine tasting in the Queen`s wine cellar. Free time to enjoy Balchik. Overnight stay and dinner in Kavarna.

 

3. Balgarevo village – Kaliakra Cape – Mangalia – Murighiol

We leave for Romania today , but before doing that we have one more stop in Bulgaria – Cape of Kaliakra. Kaliakra is a crag of red color rearing 60-70 meter above the sea with numerous fortifications, evocative ruins and caves. We have a walk and sightseeing tour by foot on Kaliakra and then we drive to the famous Dalboka restaurant for lunch. The Dalboka restaurant and farm is well known for production of Black sea mussels. It is situated in a deep valley down at the foot of Kaliakra. After lunch we head to Mangalia. We cross the Bulgarian – Romanian boarder and soon we reach Mangalia. Visit of the Roman ruins in President hotel. Short stroll on the local bazaar to stretch our feet.From here we have several hours drive to the gate of Danube Delta – village of Murighiol.

4. Danube Delta

After breakfast we head for a boat trip in the Danube Delta. Today we are going to explore the minor waterways and the exotic wildlife of the Delta – with no doubt one of the area`s greatest pleasures. The Danube Delta is one of the most important wetlands of the world and truly one of the last surviving great wildernesses of Europe and its best wildlife sanctuary. We are going to see Isac, Gorgova and Uzlina lakes. We approach a vast maze of channels, forests, sand dunes and reeds. On our way we enjoy the majestic beauty of mother nature and have the chance to see many birds. When we get hungry, we prepare a picnic on the boat or by the lake while listening to the birds songs and other nature sounds.Back to Murighiol in the evening.

 

5. Murighiol – Constanta – Techirgiol

Today we say good bye to the Danube Delta and continue our trip further to Constanta. The third biggest city of Romania offers a bit of everything: beaches, a picturesque Old Town, archaeological treasures and a peaceful Mediterranean air with the charm of dilapidated Venice back alleys. We are going to have a sightseeing tour and visit one of the few excellent museums in the afternoon. Constanta`s most renowned attraction is the History and Archaeological museum with its Roman statues and one of the biggest Roman mosaics from the 3rd century. Lunch in a typical Romanian restaurant in Constanta. Free time for shopping and we drive to lake Techirgiol in the late afternoon. Here we have a stunning sunset and overnight in one of the SPA hotels in the area.

 

6. Techirgiol – Kavarna - Varna

Time to say good bye to Romania. We drive to the Bulgarian – Romanian boarder and cross the boarder. On our way we have a stop at the Green Training Center in Shabla. It is located in a culturally important municipal building known as the "Old School" or "pension". The massive stone building dates back from the early 20th century and is distinguished by its monumental architecture and high aesthetic value.Short stroll in the nature and drive further to Varna. On the way we have another delicious lunch at Milev`s restaurant – a famous Bulgarian restaurant. On the way we visit the Rock monastery of Aladzha, about 20 meters above the ground, cut in to the rocks. Our final destination is Varna.

7. Varna

A whole day with sightseeing tour and free time in Varna. We start with visit of the Archaelogical museum with the oldest treasure of hand made gold in the world. After the museum we have a visit of Varna Cathedral of the Holy Virgin – the second biggest cathedral in Bulgaria. Our last stop will be the Old Varna with the rests from the Roman Bath – Romae Thermae. Free time for shopping or for a walk in the Marine park.

 

8. Departure

Transfer to the airport and departure.
