What about a cocktail of breathtaking nature, wine and SPA pleasures?

Bulgaria is a country rich in ancient ruins, beautiful landscapes and warm nature springs. Here history and nature have created a perfect place for recreation. We offer you to immerse yourself into the healing waters and into the green nature of the charming Rhodope mountains.

During this holiday we visit the second biggest city of Bulgaria – Plovdiv. Plovdiv is famous for the Old Town with charming houses from the Revival period decorated with colourful ornaments.

Nothing brings greater relaxation and pleasure than SPA pleasures amid the clean air of mountain peaks. In the heart of the Rhodope, the mountain of Orpheus and Dionysus, the small town of Devin offers all the benefits that mineral water provides. Water treatment, mud treatment, paraffin and lye treatment, kinetic therapy and physical therapy – these are all anti-ageing procedures which will give you enough energy to move about the area and see all the sights: gorges, caves and stone-house hamlets shrouded in the fabulous atmosphere of an ancient mountain filled with history and legends.

The highlight of our trip is the visit of the Festival of the bagpipe in the village of Gela.

1.Arrival

Transfer to Plovdiv and overnight.

2.Plovdiv – Kazanlak – Thracian tomb – Rose museum – Schipka Russian church

After breakfast we will head off to the Valley of the Thracian kings. It was called so because of the many burial tombs of the kings who ruled the Thracians. In one of these mounds the Kazanlak tomb is situated. The mural paintings in the burial chamber and the corridor are of extraordinary artistic value and form a composition, showing the life of the Thracians.

We will also visit the memorial church of the Nativity of Christ. It is elaborately decorated by multicolored ceramic, while domes and crosses are gold-plated. Getting to the church, the visitor is stuck with admiration by the gorgeous architecture of the building. This valley has another name as well – the Valley of the Roses – because of the numerous rose fields. In this connection we will also visit the Rose museum.

3.Plovdiv – Sofia – Plovdiv

This day of ouritinerary is devoted to Sofia. The Roman streets and churches from the dawn of Christianity – IV-V-VI century that has remained intact add the noble patina of the time to the looks of the modern Bulgarian capital. Thehistory of Sofia dates back to antiquity. We will take a walking tour around the city’s cultural and historical centre to come across millennia-old ruins and one of the oldest churches from the dawn of Christianity – the St George Rotunda and the St Sofia Basilica. We will feel the spirit from the end of the 19th Century that is reflected in the buildings of the National Library, the Sofia University, the National Theatre, the Academy of Arts and the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the biggest cathedral on the Balkan peninsula.

4.Plovdiv – Old town - Brestovitsa – Bachkovo monastery – the wonderful bridges – Devin

Plovdiv is like an open history book. It was founded in antiquity. It has many valuable monumentslike the Antique Theatre, the Roman stadium and the Revival period houses. Like Rome, Plovdiv has been built on hills. One of these hosts the Old Town, which is a picturesque kaleidoscope of colorful facades of rich Revival Period houses. Cobblestone streets and old churches create a very special atmosphere of old times. We have a walking tour of the Old town and after that we drive to the small village of Brestovitsa. From Australia to Chile, the whole world is under the spell of red wine. But there’s only one place where the heavy grapes hold memories of the drunkenness of Dionysus and the boisterous Bacchanalias. This is the valley of the Thracians in Bulgaria. Since time immemorial, there the hot summer sun turns the grapes into wine, and the wine into myths and art.Visit to the Todoroff Winery, getting to know the winery’s history and the wine-making technology. Lunch and wine tasting.

Further to Bachkovo. It was founded in the 11th Century, and the ossuary that’s at 300 metres from it dates from this time too. On its refectory walls the monastery features wall-painting from 1605 where 12 of the most famous Greek philosophers have been depicted. After this visit we drive further to the Wonderful bridges.
The Wonderful Bridges are one of the symbols of the Rhodopе mountain. They represent two rocks tower above an old pine forest. We drive further to the town of Devin. Next 4 overnights are at a SPA hotel.

5.Devin – SPA procedure and a light walking on the eco-path

This morning we start with a short transfer to the picturesque area of Gegend Struilitza, where we start our walking on the beautiful eco-path with wonderful views to the valley of Devin river. In the afternoon there is a time for SPA procedures and swimming.

6.Light walking tour in the Rhodope mountains with visit of two caves and two picturesque gorges

A beautiful walking tour with visits of Yagodina cave and the Devil`s throat.

The enormous vertical cliffs of the Trigrad and Buinovsko gorges are sharply outlined amid the soft forms of the Rhodope. They are cut through by the rivers’ deep canyons, which have carved two beautiful caves.

In the morning we take a walking tour to the peak of the ridge by Trigrad village and further to Vodni Pad village. The hiking on the way is a real delight with stunning views and magical landscapes going after Trigradska River all the way to Trigrad and Trigrad Gorge, where we visit the Devil’s Throat cave.We drive further and visit also the Yagodina cave and the Buinovsko gorge

7.Shiroka Laka and the competition of the bagpipe in Gela village

This morning we start with a visit of Shiroka Laka village. The village is situated along the main road from Melnik to Pamporovo. It is an architectural and folklore reserve where you could hear the rich sound of the most representative and authentic Bulgarian instrument, kaba gaydaor low-pitched bagpipe. After a walk in the village we drive further to Gela village.

The festival of the bagpipe takes place the first weekend of August in a beautiful area, next to the small village of Gela in one of the greenest mountains of Bulgaria – the Rhodope mountains. Bagpipe musicians from Bulgaria gather here and the voice of their bagpipes can be heard from long distance over the green mountain slopes. People dance the popular Bulgarian Horo folk dance, chill in the shade with a cold beer and enjoy the mastership of the bagpipe players. Nature and music mix in an unbelievable composition and you don`t want this to end. We visit the competition and listen to the players. Later in the afternoon we take back to Devin.
