Day 1 Arrival in Bucharest, transfer & orientation 16.00 - 18.00
Our starting point has so much to offer. From Cold War relics to its vibrant nightlife, there's something for everyone. Casa Poporului, or The Peoples Palace, is said to be the heaviest building in the world and the third largest, and carries with it a dark, in parts, mythical history. We guide you to the old town which has undergone substantial change in recent years, and its revitalised cafe culture has created a relaxed atmosphere for watching the world go by. Should you feel the need for a leg stretch, Cismigiu Park is a great place to do it. 17 hectares of peaceful greenery, dotted with statues of Romania's good and great.

Day 2 Bucharest - Curtea de Argeș 9.00 - 14.00
Our journey today allows us to get used to our vehicles, on good roads, with stops along the way for driver changes if desired. Our destination, Curtea de Arges is one of the oldest towns in Wallachia and the gateway to the Transfăgărășan. The showpiece landmark its the Curtea de Arges Cathedral, the approach being lined with Linden trees and has the appearance of an iced cake (to some!). The town has plenty of bars and restaurants to recharge after time behind the wheel and prepare for our big trip in the morning.

Day 3 Curtea de Argeș - Sibiu 9.00 - 14.00
Our route today takes us over the Transfăgărășan road made famous by the Top Gear Team back in 2009. The claim then was that it is, 'The best road in the world', but you can now see for yourself! This is our longest drive and most exciting. We have no planned stops but there will be plenty of opportunity for photos, short breaks and of course lunch before reaching our overnight accommodation in Sibiu, European Capital of Culture 2007. The narrow streets of Sibiu's historic old town provide ample ambling opportunities after a day at the wheel, while the main square fully deserves its UNESCO Heritage status.

Day 4 Sibiu - Sighișoara 10.00 - 14.00
As we head deeper into Transylvania, our route to Bietan for lunch traverses sweeping country roads and real, rural Romania.  The church at Biertan is one of the best examples of a fortified place of worship in the Gothic style, and we pause here with enough time for a good look around over a bite to eat. Our overnight stop brings us to Sighișoara. With its Roman origins and Saxon heritage, this traditional crafts city has a diverse set of attractions to offer. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fortunately for us, all this culture doesn't prevent Sighișoara from offering a lively evening scene for us to enjoy.

Day 5 Sighișoara - Brasov 10.00 - 13.00
Although just a short drive today, surely no tour of Transylvania would be complete without a stop at Bran Castle, the inspiration for the setting of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The setting is imposing, ominous and dramatic. We encourage an informal drive through the Carpathian mountain roads to appreciate this magnificent environment to the full. Bran Castle lives up to its reputation for being dark and foreboding, although on a bright sunny day, it becomes harder to imagine the sinister fiction for which it is famed. Whatever the mood evoked, this stopover provides plenty of photo opportunities and lasting memories.

Day 6 Brasov - Sinaia 11.00 - 16.00
Surely no tour of Transylvania would be complete without a stop at Bran Castle, the inspiration for the setting of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The setting is imposing, ominous and dramatic and Bran Castle lives up to its reputation for being dark and foreboding, although on a bright sunny day, it becomes harder to imagine the sinister fiction for which it is famed. Whatever the mood evoked, this stopover provides plenty of photo opportunities and lasting memories. before proceeding to the pretty town of Sinaia. Home to the first King of Romania, Carol, the Peles Palace deserves some attention if time allows. The mountain town itself is known as the Pearl of the Carpathians and provides the venue for our final overnight stop.
