Day 1 / Arrival – Cluj-Napoca City Tour

Welcome to Transylvania!

Breathtaking views and places abundant in history are waiting to be discovered on a trip to the historical region of Transylvania, in the heart of Romania. Spectacular landscapes together with age-old historical monuments anticipate an interesting trip.

After a warm greeting, you will be directed to the hotel. In the evening we will visit the old town center reuniting the most representative historical buildings. Dinner will be served in a restaurant located in the city center. Overnight in Cluj-Napoca.

Day 2 / Cluj Napoca – Turda Salt Mine – Sighisoara

Today you’ll get an overview on the cultural mixture of Transylvania, shaped by over a thousand years of common history. After will continue with a visit to a spectacular and quite unique site, due to its strange form: Turda Salt Mine, a huge subterranean cave carved in salt, a former salt mine turned into a tourist attraction.  Hundreds of meters of galleries open into halls the size of cathedrals, one of them 90 meters tall, with a lake at the bottom. The sights inside the mine are otherworldly, attracting artists in search of spectacular views.

Our journey takes us through the picturesque Transylvanian villages seemingly frozen in time, where countryside dwellers still work using traditional methods. The tour of Transylvania continues with a history lesson in the heart of Sighisoara fortress – monument included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Walking up the winding cobblestone streets lined with historical buildings, we reach the Clock Tower, a symbol of the city, atop of which you can admire the breathtaking views. The Tower shelters a museum of medieval weapons and the chamber of torture. After visiting the tower we’ll climb the three hundred wooden steps up to the Church-on-the-hill, built in the XIV century .Overnight in Sighisoara.

Day 3 / Sighisoara – Biertan – Saschiz – Viscri – Brasov

Next, we reach the famous region of the fortified churches, present-day witnesses of times when wars were a normal event. First, we reach Biertan, the largest fortified church in Transylvania built by the Saxons in the sixteenth century and nowadays listed as UNESCO monument. We’ll visit Saschiz and Viscri, two small settlements, structured around the hundred-year-old churches. The two villages are often visited by Prince Charles. He returns every summer for the peace and quiet of the countryside, mostly seduced by the archaic rhythm of life and uniqueness of the place. Overnight in Brasov.

Day 4 / Brasov – Prejmer – Dracula Castle – Rasonv Fortress – Brasov

Brasov city tour. The town founded by Teutonic Knights, in 1211 with a rich cultural influence inherited during the centuries. Today it is considered one of the most beautiful Romanian cities. The tour of Transylvania continues with a visit to Prejmer, a church-fortress surrounded by white, 12-metre-tall walls, sheltering the church and the siege buildings. Today we’ll visit one of the most famous and infamous castles in Europe, Dracula’s Castle, whose legend has been a relentless inspiration for Hollywood. The castle was built in the 13th century, set strategically atop a 60-metre cliff, towering over the most important access route into Transylvania. The same medieval atmosphere is recreated by Rasnov Fortress, dominating the surroundings from an altitude of more than 600 meters. Overnight in Brasov.

Day 5 / Brasov – Fagaras Fortress – Carta Monastery – Sibiu

The way to Fagaras Fortress reveals, once more, the unspoiled beauty of Romania. Next, we reach the feudal castle surrounded by moats and on our way to Sibiu, we’ll stop to admire the old Cistercian Monastery in Carta. Those who wish to take in a breathtaking view and take astonishing photos can go up the 700-year-old tower. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 6 / Sibiu – European Capital of Culture 2007

The tour of Transylvania continues with Sibiu, the 2007 European Cultural Capital. The city’s charm is mainly attributed to the German-like architectural style of the old town and its central square. Next stop is ASTRA Museum Of Traditional Folk Civilization – is based on the “living museum” concept, aiming to salvage, conserve and showcase traditional folk culture; it is one of the most important institutions of this kind in Europe. Here you have the chance to visit the museum in a romantic manner: by carriage. Only 20-minute away you’ll walk into one of the best preserved rural sites in Europe, as Forbes put it. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 7 / Sibiu – Calnic – Corvin Castle – Alba Iulia

Today we discover a newly-added monument to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Calnic Fortress. Closely related to the European history is also Hunedoara Castle, built in the Gothic style and connected to Vlad Tepes’ life, the fierce Romanian prince who inspired Bram Stoker’s character. The evening is reserved for visiting Alba Carolina Citadel, surrounded by 12 kilometers of sturdy walls enclosing more than 2000 years of Romanian history. Overnight in Alba Iulia.
