ArbanasiArbanasi is a unique village, settled on a high plateau just 4 kilometers from Veliko Tarnovo (Capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom). It is known for the rich history and large number of historical monuments, such as medieval churches and examples Bulgarian National Revival architecture, which have turned it into a popular tourist destination. The typical Arbanasi house is built as a personal fortress – thick stone foundations, high stone walls surrounding it, small windows covered with thick wooden lids or iron grids, strong fortified gates, ingeniously canceled rooms to be used for hiding in case of need. The owners constructed their homes making sure that it would be possible to live in it for a long time without going out except for water from the well in the yard. Open for visitors are hadzhi Ilia’s house, Konstantsaliev's house and medieval churches - The Birth of Christ and Archangel Michael.
