BankyaThis is a spa, renowned for its healthy climate. It is located 17 km west of Sofia, in the northeast slopes of Lyulin Mountain. The mineral waters (with temperatures of 34-38C and a flow of about 50 l per second) are propitious for the treatment of cardiovascular and rheumatic diseases and functional diseases of the nervous system. Numerous rest home facilities, hotels and medical treatment establishments have been built. Noteworthy: The mineral baths in Bankya, built after a plan by Munich Architect Professor Karl Hoheder in 1907-1910, had been the first mineral baths designed for treatment in Bulgaria and conformed to the modern technical equipment for the time.
