KotelThe greatness of the Bulgarian people can be felt in Kotel. The surrounding hills keep memories of the role of this little town in the period of Bulgarian National Revival. Antiquity and contemporaneousness are interwoven into each other. Thracians, Greeks, Romans and Byzantines have left their tracks all around and boundary fortifications of Bulgarian rulers remind of the powerful medieval Bulgarian country. Today the town impresses its visitors with the freshness of gentle mountain breeze, with its Renaissance wooden houses and the beauty woven into the hand-made ‘boyars’ carpets. Kotel was the center where the first sparkles of Bulgarian National Revival have appeared. Plenty of revival leaders were born, lived and died here for the country. Without their participation the Revolution could not be possible and different places remind us of that - the Balkan, the churches, the museums.
